Fatuma Ibrahim has had a successful operation to remove the knife lodged in cheek after her husband stabbed her.

A team of surgeons at Kenyatta National Hospital operated on the mother of four, Communications officer Kibet Mengich said, adding it “took time to remove the knife”.

Speaking to the Star on Phone on Friday, Mengich said Ibrahim has been transferred to the recuperating ward.

Fatuma was airlifted to Nairobi on Thursday by Amref Flying Doctors after doctors at Wajir General Hospital said they could not remove the knife as this would likely result in complications.

They said chances were the complications would endanger the life of the 32-year-old woman.

Ibrahim was attacked by her husband Mohamed Deeq over a family dispute.

Deeq’s brother, who attempted to mediate, confiscated knives moments before the stabbing and went to a police station to seek assistance.

Police and medics secured Ibrahim an ambulance in which she was rushed to the hospital.
