For many Kenyans, they had never heard of Thandi Ojeer, a co-director of Wale Wasee Ltd, which organised the Chris Brown concert in Kenya. But a few years back Thandi had caused outrage in Kenya when her selfie with President Uhuru Kenyatta went viral.
A majority of Kenyans only heard of Thandi Ojeer after she brought American superstar Chris Brown to Kenya but the pretty event promoter is also known for the trouble she brought President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2014.
Thandi had taken what seemed as an innocent selfie with Uhuru during the Formula One Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) turned sour as its timing coincided with the deadly Mandera bus attack that left 28 people dead.
Kenyans had been waiting for Uhuru to speak about the incident that had shocked Kenyans in 2014 but hours later the president was yet to respond until the selfie emerged.
“Selfie with The Kenyan President. My life is so #dope and I do and meet dope people! #selfie #Kenya #president #uhuruKenyatta. Lovely man.” the caption for the photo read.
Kenyans showed their disgust about the selfie on social media with many terming the president’s action as heartless while others mocked Thandi for the selfie.
“Thandi Ojeer, the girl in the Uhuru Abu Dhabi selfie, is a London socialite, maneater, ex-lover of Claude Makelele. Looks like photoshop, though,” a tweet by Macharia Gaitho read.
“I expected to see a selfie pic of Pres. Uhuru with Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi this weekend (gari za langa langa)..lakini!,“ another tweet read.
