Top American artiste, Ty Dolla $ign is in the country for the weekend. The “Or Nah” star is in the country to headline a major concert.
The soft spoken singer, who is also a regular Wizkid collaborator shared his journey to Kenya on Instagram, from the time he jetted out to the time he landed.
The first thing that he did in the country was turning on the telly to watch the news.
Unlike some Nigerian artistes who go straight to the clubs to party with girls and fail to impress on the stage, Ty is a family man –he has a 12 year old daughter named Jailynn. From time to time, he posts her on Instagram, and I presume that kind of keeps him grounded.
Ty’s musical style confuses many, who don’t know whether he is a rapper or a singer, something that he has addressed in previous interviews.
“People would call it rap, but I really don’t feel like I rap. There’s so many great rappers, like if we had to battle or some shit, they would just cream me. I don’t really consider myself a rapper, I just happen to have bars, or something like that. I still sing man, I’m a singer, ya feel me?”, he told Complex back in 2012.
Ty rose to fame when he got featured on YG’s “Toot It or Boot It” back in 2010. He went on to sign a record deal with Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang records. Some of his other hits include “Blasé” and “Paranoid”.
Here’s my favorite Ty song:
