Gospel songbird Linet Munyali’s (famously known as Size 8) mother was laid to rest at Mbale in Uganda on Saturday, November 28.

The singer had confirmed early on that her late mother would be laid to rest in Uganda despite being a Kenyan citizen by birth.

Esther Njeri Munyali was born in Kenya among the Kikuyu ethnic community but was married to a Ugandan, Samuel Kirui Munyali, and this means she had to be laid to rest in Uganda.

“Mum will be laid to rest in Mbale area, Uganda because that’s my dad’s native home,” Size 8 told Citizen TV before the family left for Uganda.

Size 8 and her six siblings have dual citizenship; for both Kenya and Uganda.

She is, however, married to Kenyan celebrity, Sammy Muraya, popularly known as DJ MO. The two married after Size 8 ditched secular music for gospel.

It was the secular music that catapulted her to fame before she eventually gave up and joined the gospel industry where she has blossomed pretty fast.

The singer’s mother passed on a week ago when she succumbed to kidney disease. The passing on of Size 8’ mother came 24 hours after the singer delivered a baby girl whom she named Ladasha Belle Wambo.

The little angel mourned her late grandmother, lamenting that she was not able to see her but also thanking God for the life she lived.

“24 hours after I was born, you went to be with the Lord Cucu ,I never got a chance to see you but it is well …RIP grandmother. To mummy & daddy, be strong,” Ladasha said.

The late Esther was diagnosed with a kidney disease that saw her spend most times in hospital. In May, 2015, the gospel music singer revealed how her mother’s treatment had drained family resources as they spent KSh20,000 in a single dialysis in Nairobi Hospital.

She called for a fundraiser which helped raise KSh2.5 million for treatment in India.
